What's on my mind...

HA! On my mind...
Actually in my mind...

I finally had my specialist appointment...
For the past ten years, I have been having trouble with my ears...
My problems started out with some kind of virus..
My ears would get full, and really hurt..
I would get Vertigo and get really sick to my stomach,
I felt like garbage..for about a year..
Slowly it did start to ease up, but I have had problems with my ears ever since..
I still get Vertigo a couple of times a year, and then I am really sick,
and after one attack about three years ago, I got tinnitus, (ringing, buzzing, and hissing in the ear)
Of course, I didn't know it was tinnitus,
and I kept waiting for it to go away...but it never did..
In fact, in Sept. of this year, it actually got worse...

Over the years, I have gone to various doctors..
and pretty much been ignored..
One doctor even asked me what did I want him to do about it?
to which I responded..
"Your the doctor...why don't you tell me?"
After a while, I just quit going...
After all... what was the point?

Finally I found a regular doctor...(hard to do here)
and Thank God...someone finally took me seriously...
She sent me to a specialist...
His name is Dr. Chikukwa...
and I had heard he was highly recommended..
However, he also had a four month waiting list...

Yesterday, I finally made it in to the appointment..
and after waiting for two hours
(My appointment was at three...and I didn't get in until 5)
I finally saw the doc...
He WAS very thourough...and after years of being ignored..
I was impressed.... although I didn't like his answer...
It is not certain yet..I have to go for an MRI,
but he is pretty sure it is a benign brain tumor...
What does this mean...
Well...if it is..
then it means either surgery or chemo....
Obviously...I'm not impressed....
However, I am glad that someone is finally taking me seriously....
He wasn't too happy with the other doctors himself..
It is possible that because of their neglect,
I have lost 40% of my hearing in my left ear...
and I will need to get a hearing aid...
not to mention, the damage is much worse then it might have been...
He also gave me a perscription for a couple of different drugs
for the tinnitus...I may or may not try them..
I don't like the idea of being on drugs the rest of my life..
I guess it depends how crazy it makes me...

So for now...that is it until I get the MRI....

Has anyone here ever suffered with tinnitus? Tumors?
And how do you manage it..(the tinnitus..)

By the way....On a totally random note....

That sounds awful. I hate doctors. I've lost all confidence in the medical community and am so tired of the entire process. Haven't ever had that though. Good luck.

Tinnitus is a fairly common term--I know a number of people who have had it at one time or another and it was treated with some medication and went away.In the case of one of my friends it comes back on occasion.
The MRI will help a lot--then they will know if it is in fact a tumor, which I would assume is benign, and maybe shrinking of it, or removal of it will make the difference???? I am now including you in my prayers:)
I was happy to hear your husband likes legos too--I'm now beginning to think there are many adults out there who are "closet" lego lovers:)!!

I really hope you haven't got a tumor. Is it worse with one ear or the other, I guess that's and indicator. I'm convinced mine has something to do with my neck or jaw, because of how it began and what brings it on. I get flareups if I eat sugary chocolate. What helps most is drinking water. Try drinking a bottle or two of water and see if it lessens at all.
Mine is buzzing pretty good right now and hmmm, I did just have a kashi bar with chocolate. Time for a swig of water.
